Power where you need it

Most homes run short of power points sooner or later. A new TV wall, a home office, a kitchen bench full of appliances. Power boards plugged into power boards are a fire risk, so the better fix is a new outlet in the right spot.

We install single and double power points, USB outlets, weatherproof outdoor points and dedicated circuits for big appliances like ovens, cooktops and dryers.

In older homes around Laverton, Altona Meadows and Werribee, the original wiring can be past its best. If we find old rubber or cloth covered cable, damaged wiring or unsafe DIY work, we explain your options for partial or full rewiring.

Signs you need more power points or new wiring

These are signs your home has outgrown its wiring, or that something needs a closer look.

  • Power boards plugged into power boards
  • Extension leads running across rooms
  • Loose, cracked or discoloured power points
  • Plugs that fall out of the socket
  • Power points or switches that feel warm
  • Old rubber or cloth covered wiring
  • Lights dimming when appliances run
  • A kitchen, bathroom or laundry renovation

How we approach new points and rewiring

For new power points we work out the best circuit to run from, check it can take the extra load and install the outlet neatly, usually without big holes in the wall.

For rewiring we inspect and test first. Not every older home needs a full rewire. Often the worst circuits can be replaced and the switchboard upgraded, which costs less and causes less disruption.

Before we start you get a written quote that explains the work. When it’s done you get a Certificate of Electrical Safety.

Electrical work isn’t a DIY job in Victoria, even swapping a power point. Energy Safe Victoria is clear that unlicensed electrical work is illegal and dangerous.

Power point and rewiring questions

Ask a question, no obligation
How much does a new power point cost?

It depends on where it goes and how easy it is to get a cable there. Adding several at once usually works out better value. Every job is quoted.

Can I replace a power point myself?

No. In Victoria, electrical work, including replacing a power point, must be done by a licensed electrician. Read why DIY electrical work is illegal.

Does my house need a full rewire?

Not always. We test the wiring and tell you honestly what needs replacing and what doesn’t.

Can you add USB power points?

Yes. We can swap standard outlets for ones with built-in USB and USB-C charging.

Need more power points?

Tell us where you need them, or send a photo of the wall, and we’ll quote the job.
