A proper home charger for your EV
More homes in Point Cook, Tarneit and Truganina have an EV or plug-in hybrid in the driveway. A dedicated wall charger charges much faster than the portable cable that plugs into a power point, and it’s built for daily use.
An EV charger is one of the biggest loads your home will have, so it needs a dedicated circuit and a switchboard with room for it. We check your switchboard and supply before we quote.
We can install the charger you’ve chosen or recommend one, and set up scheduling so you charge in off-peak hours or from your solar during the day.
Things to think about before you buy
A few things worth checking before you choose a charger.
- How far you drive each day
- Where the car parks overnight
- Whether you have solar panels
- Spare space on your switchboard
- Single-phase or three-phase supply
- Whether you own or rent
- The charger’s app and smart features
- Cable length to the car
How installation works
We start with a check of your switchboard, your supply and where the charger will go. Photos sent ahead often let us quote without a visit.
On the day we run the circuit, mount the charger, connect and test it, and show you how it works.
You receive a Certificate of Electrical Safety for the work. Some larger installations need extra checks or approval from your electricity distributor, and we tell you upfront if that applies.
Planning solar or a battery as well? Tell us. It usually costs less to plan the switchboard work for everything at once than to do it in stages.
Don’t charge an EV through an extension lead or power board. Use the cable that came with the car in a suitable power point, or better still, a dedicated charger.
EV charger questions
Ask a question, no obligationDo I need a dedicated EV charger?
Not always. A standard power point will charge the car slowly. A dedicated charger is faster and designed for daily use.
Will my switchboard need an upgrade?
Sometimes. Older boards, or boards without spare space, may need work first. We check before we quote.
Can I charge from my solar?
Many chargers can prioritise solar. We set this up if your system supports it.
How much does installation cost?
It depends on the charger, the cable run and your switchboard. Every job is quoted.
Can you install a charger at a townhouse or rental?
Usually, with permission from the owner or the owners corporation. We can give you the details they need to approve it.
